Last Friday, officers from the Ithaca Police Department teamed up with more than 20 law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies from across New York State to support athletes at the 2024 Special Olympics New York State Summer Games. At the opening ceremonies, first responders welcomed the athletes and cheered them on as they kicked off the games. The following day, officers continued to show their support by awarding medals to athletes competing in various sports like swimming, bowling, volleyball, gymnastics, track and field, basketball, tennis, and powerlifting. The presence and encouragement of the first responders not only built confidence in the athletes but also left a lasting impression, inspiring all involved. The dedication and spirit displayed by the athletes were truly memorable, making a positive impact on everyone present at the games.
