Researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine's Center for Global Health, in collaboration with Tanzanian colleagues, have started a large-scale study to determine if the influence of religious leaders can help reduce rates of life-threatening hypertension in their communities. The study aims to assess whether this approach could lower hypertension-related deaths in Tanzania and across Africa, a region with the world's highest age-adjusted rate of hypertension. Researchers also hope the results may benefit U.S. communities that face challenging hypertension outcomes.
