Afghan Women Triumph: Cornell Graduation, Advanced Studies Ahead

At Cornell University in Ithaca, nine Afghan women who escaped the Taliban have successfully matriculated as part of the #Cornell2025 class. They are among the first from their community to complete their degrees on the Hill. After graduation, five of the women plan to pursue advanced degrees. Four of these future studies will take place at Cornell, with three of the women enrolling in the same master’s program in public health, specializing in epidemiology and infectious disease. Khadija Monis ’25 expressed that education has always been her dream, emphasizing its importance in her life.
