Cornell Explores Agrivoltaics For Dual Land Use
Cornell University researchers in Ithaca have found that about 84% of the land suitable for future solar development in New York state is currently used for agriculture. To examine both the opportunities and challenges of expanding solar energy on this land, scientists at Cornell AgriTech along with experts from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University are increasing their focus on agrivoltaics. Agrivoltaics is the practice of combining agricultural production with solar panel installations on the same parcel of farmland. The research aims to better understand how this dual use of land can benefit both agriculture and renewable energy development. Further details are available on Cornell's research website.
