Cornell Report Reveals Pelvic Floor Myths Among Women

A recent report from Cornell University in Ithaca highlights that many women consider pelvic floor issues, such as urinary incontinence and pain, a normal part of aging, childbirth, weight gain, or menopause. However, these conditions occur when the muscles and tissues that support the bladder, bowel, and uterus weaken or do not function properly, and they affect one-third of all women.

Dr. Larissa Rodríguez, chair of the Department of Urology at Weill Cornell Medicine and urologist-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, noted that many women suffer in silence because they are embarrassed and mistakenly believe nothing can be done. The report emphasizes that pelvic floor disorders are not an inevitable part of aging and that treatment options are available.

Cornell University is affiliated with Weill Cornell Medicine. Further details about the report can be found at the Cornell University news website.
