Apex School Capacity Improves with New Elementary School

Staff Report / apexlocal.org

In Apex, North Carolina, school capacity has been a significant concern due to rapid growth and a lack of coordination between the town and the school system since around 2010. However, this situation has improved since 2019, with both the town and the school system collaborating on development projects to ensure adequate school capacity.

On this progress, Cheryl Shavers from Apex highlighted the recent "beam raising" ceremony for Pleasant Plains Elementary, which is a result of these joint efforts. The new school is set to open next July as a year-round institution, accommodating approximately 900 students. There are ongoing assessments regarding potential supply chain disruptions linked to the recent dock workers' strike.

Shavers expressed appreciation for the contributions of local officials, including Lindsay Mahaffey from Wake County Schools District 8 and Wake Commissioner Cheryl Shavers, for their dedication to making this school a reality for the community.
