Cornell Unveils 'Plant-Based' Botanical Exhibit

Cornell University Library has opened a new exhibit titled "Plant-Based: Botanical Innovations from Paper to Poison" on September 18. The exhibit, on display at the Cornell University campus in Ithaca, presents a collection of documents and artifacts from various cultures and historical periods dedicated to plants.

Pieces on display include handmade paper from the Ming Dynasty, woodblocks created by Cornell alumna Elfriede Abbe ’40, ancient papyrus fragments from Egypt, contemporary artists’ books, and herbals from around the world. In addition, plant specimens have been provided by the Cornell University Insect Collection and the L.H. Bailey Hortorium Herbarium.

The exhibit highlights the multiple roles plants have played in art, science, and culture, showing their importance as both subjects of study and objects of creative expression. For more details on the exhibit, visit the Cornell University news website.
