Cornell Team Boosts Photovoltaic Efficiency with PCM

A materials science and engineering major at Cornell University, Aarav Seth ’25, worked with Professor Tobias Hanrath from Cornell Engineering on a project focused on energy technologies. The project aimed to improve the lifespan and efficiency of commercial photovoltaic panels. The team developed a low-cost method that uses phase change materials to lower operating temperatures, enhancing the performance of the panels.

Additional details and the implications of the work were highlighted by Cornell University in connection with the project. Safety protocols are in place at the testing site, where safety glasses are required.
