Risley Hall at Cornell University opened in 1913 as a residence for women. Located near the Thurston Avenue Bridge, the building was constructed in a stately Tudor style, and its design was meant to evoke the look of a castle. Over a century later, Risley continues to serve as an iconic residence on East Hill and houses Cornell’s arts-themed program house. The building features a gracefully curved driveway marked by slender brick pillars and has been home to generations of students. The story of Risley Hall reflects Cornell’s historic expansion across Fall Creek Gorge.
